The trees have eyes
Sculptor Joe Wheelwright, a Bostonian who works
in Vermont, takes trees and inverts them, using
branches to form legs and roots to make heads
and hair in his amazingly graceful and life-like
human figures. Eight of Wheelwrights’s Tree
Figures are on display on the grounds of the
Fruitlands Museum. Also, we will visit “Forests
Interrupted,” which tracks historical attitudes toward
nature, and we will check out the fine craftsmanship
in the Shaker Gallery. Cost is $10, Seniors $8 and
children $4 ages 5-17. Plan on lunch at the
restaurant before we head home.
Note: wear comfortable shoes to visit the tree
figures.
